Household Helper
Early product thinking — an unedited brainstorm of where the junc / Grid concept came from and where it might go.
- Premise: An all-in-one plug-and-play device that runs as a router / home-server combo. It runs home-server software that emulates the functionality of current cloud-based solutions such as digital storage, streaming, document editing, and possibly even gaming. This also means that business models like ads and subscriptions are not needed. There is a main household app that works with the device to provide access to all this functionality. A phone can only be registered with one household device at any given time, and requires permission from both households to leave an existing and/or join a new household.
- Possible ideas
- An app store that lets developers create applications that, instead of
running on a phone, would also need to have a counterpart application that
runs on the household device.
- It may as well be more of a search engine than app store. We can include “websites” in this search as well.
- Websites
- We can include free software that allows people to create and host their own custom websites. This would be great for small businesses and it would be 100% free. There’s no need to pay for any domain names or hosting services.
- Household can run in dictator or democratic modes.
- Trust levels between households
- Households can give each other levels of trust, just as you would in real life between your friends’ and family’s households.
- Enables exchanging of relevant information.
- Social media that’s not driven by engagement. Engagement + ads = money. Money + greed = deceptive practices.
- An app store that lets developers create applications that, instead of
running on a phone, would also need to have a counterpart application that
runs on the household device.
- Positive benefits
- No age verification concerns. Every household is responsible for determining what its own household has access to, and has complete control over that since the software doesn’t run outside the household — access can be instantly cut off and guaranteed.
- Gives parents more control over what their children have access to on the internet.
- Long-term possibilities
- Assists small business owners with running operations.
